BURLINGTON — A young man and a 14-year-old boy were arrested Friday after police received a tip about people going around trying to get into vehicles in the area of Commonwealth Drive, police said.
The call came in about 3 a.m. Friday. Burlington Police Department officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the area.
Officers saw someone leaving a garage, and as they approached, he ran and got into a car with someone else already in it, police said. It started to drive off, but the driver lost control and wrecked, and the car caught on fire.
The people in the car ran, but one was caught quickly. A police dog tracked the other one down.
The vehicle was identified as one reported stolen in Graham, police said.
James Newton, 19, was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, first-degree burglary, larceny, possession of a stolen vehicle, injury to real property and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He was being held with no bond allowed.
Juvenile petitions will be sought against the 14-year-old, police said.
