BURLINGTON — A man has been accused of setting a fire Tuesday afternoon at the front door of the house he shared with other people in a neighborhood just south of downtown Burlington.
Lennard Johnson, 38, ran from the house and is wanted on four counts of first-degree arson, one count for each of the people who were in the house when the fire was set, the Burlington Police Department said.
The fire at 512 Maple Ave. was reported about 3:50 p.m. Tuesday. Burlington Fire Department firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from the front door of the house, and one person was reported to be trapped in an upstairs room.
Firefighters found a small fire blocking the front door, extinguished it and went to find the person who was still in the house. Firefighters had the fire under control in just under five minutes.
No injuries were reported.
Damage was minimal to the structure and contents because before the fire department arrived another occupant of the house had poured water on the fire, which slowed its progression, the fire department said.
Johnson was arrested late Wednesday afternoon. His bond was set at $200,000 secured.
Police did not release any information about why they think Johnson would have set the fire.
