BURLINGTON – A 69-year-old man who is a registered sex offender is accused of hanging around a city park and taking photos of children on Tuesday, the Burlington Police Department said.
Several parents who were visiting the Aboretum at Willowbrook Park noticed a man loitering around the playground area taking pictures about 11:30 a.m. and called 911 to report it.
Burlington police officers and members of the Special Victim’s Unit went to the park and checked the car license plate numbers that parents recorded, and theyidentified the man as Jimmy Lawrence Shue of Burlington.
Shue has several past convictions involving children, most recently in 2015 on charges of second-degree kidnapping of a minor and indecent liberties with a child. He was released from prison in April 2019, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety.
Officers found Shue at his home and through the investigation were able to confirm he had been at the park.
Shue was arrested and charged with being a sex offender unlawfully on prohibited premises. He was being held at the Alamance County Detention Center with bond set at $250,000 secured.
The Burlington Police Department said that the vigilant parents and guardians allowed officers to act swiftly.
