Gibsonville resident Lisa Eddins has launched a new baking business, but she's not serving up the sweets you would expect. Her business, Furbabies Bakery NC, caters to dogs with a sweet tooth instead of their human companions.
A dog mom to two pups, Eddins said her business grew out of her love of treating her own animals. She started baking for her own animals, friends started placing orders then Furbabies Bakery NC was born.
"I love my furbabies," Eddins said. "I was always doing this for my animals and my friends started asking me to do it for theirs. I thought 'I'm going to go with it.'"
Eddins makes cookies, cupcakes, donuts, s'mores and even full cakes, all made with dog safe ingredients. Ingredients include almond or coconut flour, honey, bananas, carrots, vegetable or coconut oil, egg whites, vanilla extract, peanut butter and carob chips as a substitute for chocolate.
"It's cool, on birthdays or something, to give them something," Eddins said.
Everything is made in her home kitchen.
The doggie donuts are Eddins' most popular product and they sell for $1.50 each but must be bought in batches of 6. Cupcakes are also sold by the half dozen for $15. She also sells cookies for $1.50, s'mores for $2 and cakes start at $20 to $25 but can vary depending on what the customer wants.
"I want to do something that brings people joy, but I don't want to overcharge them," Eddins said.
Orders can be placed through Eddins' social media pages. Shipping is also available.
