Spring is right around the corner and the warmer weather often brings home renovations. As such, Preservation Burlington has opened its 2022 Matching Grant cycle, providing reimbursement to historical homeowners for exterior repairs.
"The Matching Grant Program of Preservation Burlington aids owners of our city’s historically and architecturally significant homes so they may preserve and maintain the historic character of their residence exterior. Such investments maintain neighborhood integrity, instill pride of place, and enhance real estate values in the community," a press release from Preservation Burlington said.
These grants reimburse homeowners 50% of the historically-appropriate repair costs up to $5,000. They are designed to be applied towards exterior home repairs such as porch repairs, window or door restoration, masonry repairs or exterior painting.
Last year, Tarpley Street resident Mary Dalton was the first grant recipient. She used the funding to tackle repairs including sealed windows, rotted siding and fresh paint on her 1928 bungalow.
Any Burlington homeowner living in a single-family residence is eligible to apply if their property is either located within one of Burlington’s six designated historic districts or is listed individually as a local, a state, or a National Register landmark.
The application deadline is April 1 and grant recipients will be announced by May 15. To apply, visit presburlington.org/grants.
If selected for the grant, work must start by July 1 and conclude by Sept. 30. Funding does not apply to work completed before grant approval.
