PITTSBORO — Forty-one clean-up teams, including 10 from Alamance County, took part in this year's effort to remove trash from the Haw River and its and creeks from Greensboro down to Jordan Lake.
The Alamance teams filled more than 90 large garbage bags and picked up tires, car parts and home appliances in the Haw River Assembly's 3rd annual Clean-Up-A-Thon on March 18.
The yearly event raises awareness about the problem of trash and litter and gets it removed before it can become a hazard to wildlife and water quality. Since 1991 nearly 7,000 volunteers have collected 11,000 bags of trash and 2,000 tires from waterways.
