BURLINGTON — Alamance Regional Medical Center administrators gave a luncheon Wednesday for 32 hospital volunteers and their spouses to thank them for what they do for the hospital.
The volunteers ranged in experience from one month at the hospital to 21 years and gave a combined 28,000 hours of service during the past year in 15 areas.
Vivian Langley, the director of volunteer services, called them “the icing to the cake. They just make everything better.”
Among other duties, the volunteers:
• Escorted 9,000 patients from the hospital after surgery or treatment.
• Drove the courtesy van shuttling people from the parking lot to and from the hospital.
• Raised $300,000 running the hospital gift shop ($100,000 from T-shirt sales alone).
• Provided updates to families waiting while loved one’s were in surgery.
The luncheon was held at Occasions in Burlington.
