Later today, staff at Harvey R. Newlin Elementary School are planning to have a quarantine-safe trick-or-treat event with students from select grades.
Starting at 1 p.m. and running through 3:30 p.m., parents are expected to drive up to the school with their students to receive a bag containing school supplies for the upcoming term along with some treats.
According to Iris Burton, one of the participating volunteers, teachers wanted to do something nice for the students while adhering to safety protocols.
"The kids will not be allowed to get out of the car and they are asking the children to wear masks," Burton said. "The teachers will be masked, the volunteers will be masked and everyone will be social distancing."
Students from the 3rd and 4th grades will not be participating.
