GRAHAM — According to information from Southern Alamance Family Empowerment food ministry (S.A.F.E.), Tiffanie Jackson has become the organization's new executive director.
Jackson has called Alamance County home for 12 years. She had been a volunteer at S.A.F.E. for six years and a member of the board of directors for three years before taking on the role of executive director.
The role of executive director partners Tiffanie’s commitment to her community, her belief that no one should have the burden of worrying about how they will feed their family and her experience as an entrepreneur.
A graduate of NCSU and Meredith College, she began her work as an entrepreneur at T Jackson Design in Chapel Hill. Within a few years, her firm was one of the most successful interior design firms in the Triangle.
In 2008, she and her husband Stephen moved to Charlottesville, Va., where she opened Nora and Willie’s Good Food Company, a niche catering business that served UVA, CFA Institute and the NGIC. The company sourced its ingredients from local farmers and producers in the Shenandoah Valley. Tiffanie’s experience as an entrepreneur, her love of cooking and her desire to work in a more sustainable field made the business a success. The work opened her eyes to what small family farms do, which, to her, was inspirational.
Years later, she and her husband decided they wanted to move closer to family and came to Alamance County. In 2016, they bought a farm in Snow Camp where they now homestead and raise their two girls.
During the past year, Tiffanie has worked closely with the S.A.F.E. board, exploring asset-based community development which is a strategy for sustainable community development that builds on the skills of local residents and the support of local institutions. Tiffanie is also continuing her education with graduate work in sustainability, focusing on food systems and agriculture. She is inspired to “Grow our mission beyond feeding people by feeding them better and finding out what comes from that.”
