The event took a two-year pause due to the pandemic but is officially back this year, thanks to the hard work of the Alamance Artisans Guild along with 31 local businesses.
The Alamance Artisans Art Extravaganza will display with work of 21 local artists for free while showcasing diversity through various art mediums.
Some of the art that will be displayed at the annual event will include ceramics, photography, fabric art, wood turning, fine jewelry and painting.
Jean Kaplan, president of the Alamance Artists Guild, first gained a passion for art 50 years ago after taking a class. Kaplan later discovered that textiles and clothing were her favorite mediums.
"I do a lot of wearables," Kaplan says. "One of my favorites was a long jacket that on a smaller person would be mid-hip but on a longer person would be shorter."
Visitors can browse hundreds of art choices, enjoy artists’ demonstrations, and enter a raffle for distinctive artworks at the indoor event.
The Alamance Artisans Guild started in 2007 as a way for local artists to network with each other. The goals of the guild are to increase the awareness of handmade objects and to facilitate networking among artisans
Curious creators, amateur artists, and guests alike are welcome to attend their monthly meetings.
Deb Barnett, vice president of the Alamance Artists Guild, joined the organization around 15 years ago after relocating to Alamance County.
"I was looking for a group of folks that I could join and this Guild was an opening, welcoming group of folks," Barnett said.
Barnett creates functional, hand-made pottery pieces and has enjoyed what the Guild has to offer her creatively.
"They're able to share their resources and expertise with us," Barnett said. "They have programs that extend knowledge and it's welcoming of people from different areas and of different levels of expertise."
