A woman was sentenced to a maximum of eight years and four months in prison after luring a man to Mebane where he was assaulted and kidnapped, the Alamance County Sheriff's Office said.
On Tuesday, Brittney Darnell pleaded guilty to first-degree kidnapping and was sentenced on that charge.
The charge came from an incident in May 2019 when Darnell lured the victim to Clover Creek Mobile Home Park in Mebane, the Sheriff's Office said. Darnell and the man had met online.
Darnell's two children and two neighbor's children were inside asleep. Darnell's boyfriend, Samuel Murrell, and his friend, David Richardson, were also inside.
When the victim arrived at the home, Murrell and Richardson assaulted him with a baseball bat and tire iron, robbing him in the process, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.
They bound the man with duct tape and put him in the back of his vehicle. Richardson and Murrell drove him to Granville County and used his bank card to withdraw cash from an ATM, the release said.
Then they drove to a rural part of Granville County, where they pulled the victim out of the vehicle and threw him over a bridge, according to the release. The man was still bound at this time.
The victim fell into a creek and crawled to a road, where an off-duty firefighter found him a few hours later. The man was since recovered from all his injuries.
On May 28, 2020, Murrell and Richardson pled guilty to attempted murder. Murrell was sentenced to a maximum of 19 years in prison, and Richardson was sentenced to a maximum of 24 years and 10 months in prison.
