SALISBURY — Drucilla Estelle Braxton Hearn, 98, of Salisbury passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem.
Born January 12, 1925 in Chatham County, she was the daughter of the late Everette Ashburn Braxton and Nonie Lewis Braxton.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Graham and First Baptist Church of Salisbury, serving as a Deacon (Graham) and a choir member of both. She worked at the State Highway Commission and was a registrar for the Alamance County Board of Elections, she was also the bookkeeper for E.A. Braxton and Sons Construction Company. Drucilla enjoyed singing with her family and the Alamance Chorale. Special friends in her life include the members of the 12 Minus 2 Neighborhood Club.
Drucilla enjoyed reading and memorizing poetry. She could quote more poems and essays than most people know. Her quick humor came out naturally and very uplifting. You could see the love of God in her face and feel her friendly warmth with simply her presence. We will miss her humor, wit, frugal ways, politics, singing and cooking. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Zeb Vance Hearn, Jr.; son-in-law, Curtis A. Rich; brothers, Donell Braxton and E.A. Braxton; and sisters, Theo Pickard and Bartialette Thompson. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Leslie Rich of Salisbury; grandchildren, Lindsey R. Johnson (Jeremy) of Monroe, Emily R. Graham (Wes) of Salisbury and Maggie R. Hatch (Alston) of Clayton; and great-grandchildren, Eli Johnson, Abel Johnson, Wyatt Graham, Ivy Graham, Audrey Graham, Will Hatch and Hallie Bea Hatch.
