I was just reading where Gwen Berry, a gifted athlete, turned her back on the flag and the playing of our national anthem after she and two others won spots to go to the Olympics. She said she received a lot of criticism which she did not deserve since she had understood it was to be played before they went out. Organizers denied ever making any such comments. She said she doesn’t hate this country but she hates its systemic racism.
First off, I don’t agree that our country is systemic racist. I am 85 years old and lived through the segregation era of schools, restaurants, churches, parks, just about everything. And look at us now. I firmly believe that only a very, very small percentage of our people could honestly be categorized as racist.
