RALEIGH — North Carolina State’s Austin Murr and Tyler McDonough delivered run-scoring doubles in the seventh inning of Sunday’s second game, sending the Wolfpack to a 6-4 victory against Davidson and a season-opening sweep of the baseball doubleheader at Dail Park.
Luca Tresh, J.T. Jarrett and Vojtech Mensik had two hits apiece for the Wolfpack (2-0). Tresh homered in the fourth inning and Mensik drove in a run with a single in the fifth.
Trevor Candelaria cranked a home run and a double, and finished with three RBI in the second game for Davidson (0-2).
In the first game, N.C. State rolled to a 13-3 rout on the strength of a 10-run fifth inning.
Devonte Brown rapped three hits and drove in two runs for the Wolfpack, while Murr and Terrell Tatum added two hits and two RBI each. N.C. State’s Jonny Butler belted a home run.
• NORTH CAROLINA 3, JAMES MADISON 2: At Chapel Hill, Brett Centracchio homered and Angel Zarate ripped a run-scoring triple Sunday, as North Carolina completed a three-game sweep to begin the season at Boshamer Stadium.
Max Alba picked up the pitching victory, posting six strikeouts and allowing four hits in five innings of work. Shawn Rapp got the Tar Heels (3-0) out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning by striking out Kyle Novak on a full count.
Conor Hartigan of James Madison provided two hits, including a double. Novak and Michael Morgan drove in runs for the Dukes (0-3).
• DUKE 7-10, COASTAL CAROLINA 8-9: At Conway, S.C., Erikson Nichols belted a homer and a double and drove in six runs as Duke won the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader to claim the three-game series at Brooks Stadium.
Ethan Murray doubled and tripled among his three hits in the second game, while adding two RBI for the Blue Devils (2-1).
Coastal Carolina (1-2) won Sunday’s first game on Parker Chavers’ walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning.
• NORTHEASTERN 14, WAKE FOREST 11: At Winston-Salem, Chris Lanzili and Brock Wilken homered and Wake Forest produced 13 hits, but couldn’t sweep the series Sunday at Couch Ballpark.
Scott Holzwasser’s grand slam accounted for the biggest blow from Northeastern (1-2). That broke a tie in the seventh inning and put the Huskies ahead 13-9.
Michael Turconi drove in four runs and supplied three hits for the Demon Deacons (2-1). Lanzili also had three hits.
Northeastern’s Jared Dupere added three hits, including a lead-off homer in the fifth inning, and drove in three runs.
• UNCG 3, ELON 2: At Greensboro, Spencer Smith’s bases-loaded single in the eighth inning vaulted UNC Greensboro ahead, and allowed the Spartans to take the rubber match of the three-game series Sunday at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
Anthony Galason’s solo home run in the sixth inning moved Elon in front with a 2-1 lead. Jarrett Pico had two hits and drove in a run for the Phoenix (1-2).
Josh Madole chipped in two hits for UNCG (2-1).
