MEBANE — Graham-Mebane Lake’s annual bank-fishing catfish tournaments will take place on four Saturdays, May 18, June 15 and July 13, from 8 p.m.-midnight and Aug. 10 from 7-11 p.m. at 3218 Bason Road, Mebane, weather permitting.
The tournaments are for all ages, but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and be able to cast, hook a fish and reel it in by themselves. Adults may help net a fish.
The cost is $15 per entrant in each tournament. Sign-ups will be in person at each one. There is no cost for spectators, but they shall identify themselves to lake staff during the sign-up period or upon arrival. Live bait will be available to purchase. All fish must be caught by rod, line and hook at Graham-Mebane Lake during the tournament. Two rods are allowed per entrant.
No alcohol, tobacco or vapes will be allowed. Pets must be leashed, with a leash in hand, and remain under positive control.
Payout is for the three heaviest catfish caught and weighed on-site during the tournament, each by a different entrant. Participants may weigh as many fish as they like, but only their heaviest fish will be considered.
There will be a 50/50 drawing during the event.
As a reminder, all people 16 years and older are required to have a valid fishing license to fish in North Carolina waters. Fishing licenses can be purchased from the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s website or from a local tackle shop or outdoor retailer that serves as a wildlife service agent.
Only baits that are classified as legal for use in North Carolina inland waters by the Wildlife Resources Commission are allowed.
