ALTAMAHAW — Trevor Ward and Nolan Pope claimed victories in the two Late Models features Friday night at Ace Speedway, as the race track returned to competition after a four-month layoff between events.
Ward of Winston-Salem won the division’s first 50-lap race, ahead of McLeansville’s Dustin Rumley, the runner-up. Blake Stallings of Danville, Va., finished third, followed by Pope of Harrisonville, Mo., and Trey Crews of Halifax, Va., in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Pope, coming off a pass on the final lap that delivered his dramatic CARS Tour triumph at Florence Motor Speedway in South Carolina, captured his first Ace victory in the second 50-lapper of the night. Rumley placed second again for back-to-back runner-up finishes. Crews came in third, followed by Zach Bruenger of Quincy, Ill., in fourth and Ward in fifth.
Stokesdale’s Dillon Harville won the 50-lap Limited Late Models event, ahead of runner-up Jason York and third-place Drew Dawson. Harville collected a victory in the division in June, before the speedway shut down under orders from the governor for not following coronavirus-related restrictions on mass gatherings.
Snow Camp’s Gary Causey picked up the victory in the 40-lap Modifieds race, finishing in front of runner-up Gary Young Jr. and third-place Josh Lowder. Causey won at the track earlier this year in May.
Ace’s other winners Friday night were Thomasville’s Michael Tucker (30-lap Mini Stocks) and Burlington’s Keith Brame Jr. (20-lap Extremes).
