Police arrested a man after a robbery Saturday afternoon at the Burlington Family Dollar.
Before 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, police say a man waited until the cash register was open at the Family Dollar located at 2204 Maple Avenue. Once it was open, he jumped over the counter and grabbed money from the drawer, according to a press release from the Burlington Police Department. He assaulted an employee, but that person wasn't injured, the release said.
The suspect was later identified as Nathan Shayne Foster, 27, of Elon, N.C.
Foster left the scene in a white Mazda sedan. Burlington police officers say they saw the car leaving the scene and attempted to pull him over, but Foster wouldn't stop. Police didn't pursue the car because Foster was driving erratically, which could put other cars in danger, the release said.
A little later, an officer with the Graham Police Department tried to pull the vehicle over, but Foster wouldn't stop, police said.
Eventually, the vehicle became disabled in the 1800 block of Jeffries Cross Road, according to the press release. Authorities arrested Foster after briefly chasing him on foot.
The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office and the Haw River Police Department helped apprehend the suspect.
Foster is being charged with common law robbery, careless and reckless driving, and two counts of felony fleeing to elude.
He's being held at the Alamance County jail on a $65,000 secured bond.
Foster may face additional charges, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500.
