The Alamance County Service League’s 2020 Holly Days Bazaar, scheduled for Nov. 20 and 21, has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns after nearly 40 consecutive years of the event.
Emily Sharpe, president of the Service League, said the decision to cancel Holly Days was not an easy one, but one that the organization felt was the safest option.
“Holly Days is popular among several groups of people, but it's especially popular among our alumni members who are all ages,” Sharpe said. “With the way things are and the current phase we're in and not knowing how things are going to be related to COVID in November, we didn’t feel like it was the best nor safest decision to ask those Holly Days loyal attendees to be in an indoor space.”
As North Carolina currently remains in Phase 2 until at least mid-September, only gatherings of 10 people or less are allowed indoors.
“We didn’t want to ask anyone to make a risky decision to attend Holly Days,” Sharpe added.
The Alamance County Service League expects to bring back Holly Days by next year.
“We certainly are hopeful that Holly Days will return for its 40th year next year,” Sharpe said. “It is already scheduled so we are crossing our fingers and hoping everything goes smoothly next year.”
