The Piedmont Triad Workforce Development Board will host a virtual career fair Thursday, Nov. 19 to promote over 300 job openings with more than 10 companies in the region.
As of Tuesday, 11 employers had signed on to recruit new employees, including Nestlé-PURINA Petcare, Armor Express, Envision Plastics, Gildan Activewear, Henniges Automotive, Press Glass, Inc., The City of Reidsville, North Carolina, Aging Disability & Transit Services (ADTS) of Rockingham County, UNC Rockingham Health Care, Ontex Global and more.
“It really is all about connecting employers with a qualified workforce or labor pool” Wendy Walker-Fox, the director of workforce development, said. “It’s so important for us to hold it at this time, and certainly on this virtual platform in the wake of a national pandemic, just looking at creative and innovative ways to connect those employers and job seekers.”
Job positions vary, but include engineers, technicians, marketing specialists, and more. Some open positions require no previous experience.
“This job fair in particular is really targeted to the Rockingham County area. This is the first of many hiring events we are planning to hold through the Piedmont Triad Workforce Development Board,” Walker-Fox said.
Despite the virtual format, Walker-Fox said the PTRWDB has worked to mirror an in-person career fair as best as they can.
“It really does mirror an in-person job fair and that is what we’re aiming to create, that real connection between an employer and a job seeker,” she said.
Job seekers will be able to chat directly with recruiters during the event, learn about the position and ask questions about the workplace culture.
The career fair will be hosted through Brazen, a virtual career fair platform. Job seekers can participate for free and will be given a link to access the career fair once they register for the event.
Walker-Fox said the PTRWDB will set up its Mobile Career Center on-site at Rockingham County Community College to give participants access to Wi-Fi if they do not have it at home.
“We’re really excited about the event,” Walker-Fox said. “This is the first of several to come. … We cover seven counties within the Piedmont Triad, so definitely look for others events in those other counties as well.”
