Alamance County will now require appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Vaccinations became available to those 75 and older on Jan. 6. On both Wednesday and Thursday, the vaccine distribution site reached capacity in the morning, and people were being turned away. Some people waited in line for hours to receive the vaccine.
The Alamance County Health Department decided to revise the process due to the "overwhelming demand" to receive the vaccine seen within the Phase 1B group, according to a press release.
The county will now have a vaccine registration hotline beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8. People can call 336-290-0650 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to schedule appointments.
Vaccinations are only available to people 75 and older or healthcare workers and first responders who weren't vaccinated in phase 1A. The vaccine is being administered at the Career and Technical Education Center located at 2550 Buckingham Road in Burlington.
Vaccinations are not being offered on Friday, Jan. 8 due to weather concerns.
