Alamance County hit a somber milestone in its fight against COVID-19 Wednesday night as county health officials reported the 200th death from the virus.
Since the first reported case on March 20, the county has diagnosed a total of 13,718 people with COVID-19. In its latest update just before midnight Wednesday, the Health Department said 200 people had died.
In a presentation to county commissioners earlier this week, county Health Department Director Tony Lo Giudice said the majority of those deaths – 140 as of Jan. 19 – were connected to patients at long-term care facilities.
The milestone comes just one day after local officials hosted a porch light and luminaries vigil for those that have died from COVID-19.
