What happened on Saturday afternoon, November 7, moved me to exclaim a hearty “WOW!” My wife and I were looking out our front window and noticed a vehicle stopped in our drive. Two ladies were walking slowly, with arms filled with packages, toward our porch. Because of the virus, they stood their distance and explained who they were and why they had come to our door.
Indeed, a beautiful and moving story was behind this visit. Ms. Kim Millsaps and daughter, Sgt. Brooke Millsaps, were two of eighty-two volunteers delivering delicious and nutritious meals, face masks, specially designed caps, decorative yard signs honoring veterans, hand-made notes and drawings from children, along with other treasured keepsakes. Many thanks Greyson, Zane, Eva Grace, and Zoey for your splendid and artistic notes and pictures.
I understand that 82 volunteers delivered 475 meals, prepared and packaged at The Lamb’s Chapel, to 250 veterans and their spouses. This gigantic ministry to honor veterans was made possible by CrossPoint, a nonprofit organization whose mission is three-fold: (1) teach patriotism to the next generation; (2) honor our nation’s veterans with the Annual Veterans Night of Honor and through community outreach; and (3) support current deployed service members with the care package ministry.
This was the eighth year for Veterans Night of Honor and this year’s sponsors were: CrossPoint Academics, The Lamb’s Chapel, Alamance County Veteran Services, Creative Corner, and anonymous donors.
Should you wish to know more about this fine organization, or to become involved, or make a donation, please visit their website at www.NCVNH.org.
I can only say that this veteran was overwhelmed with gratitude and deeply moved by this recent visit and later learned more about the organization’s generous outreach. My wife, Carolyn, has dementia and insisted on coming to the door to wave goodbye to two of the eighty-two “angels” flying low in Alamance County on Saturday afternoon spreading lots of love, light, and hope!
