CARY — Eastern Alamance sophomore runner Andrew Parker placed 16th with a time of 16 minutes, 54.87 seconds at Saturday's NCHSAA Mideast Regional for boys' cross country at WakeMed Soccer Complex to individually qualify for the state championships.
Max Reisinger (15:55.51) of Chapel Hill won the race. Chapel Hill took the top three spots en route to running away with the team regional title with 17 points.
Northwood was second with 71 points, followed by Northern Guilford (73) and East Chapel Hill (120). Those four teams automatically qualify for the Class 3-A state championships, which are scheduled for this coming Saturday at Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville. Eastern Alamance was ninth out of 11 teams with 241 points.
Tyler Journigan (18:56.41) was Western Alamance's top finisher, placing 38th. Benny Salvatore (20:44.23) was Eastern Alamance's next highest finisher, coming in 54th.
• In the girls' race, Eastern Alamance junior Laila Anderson (20:33.47) finished 15th to qualify for the state championships.
Abby Weber (18:21.52) of Chapel Hill won the individual championship.
Chapel Hill claimed the team title with 33 points, followed by East Chapel Hill (67), Northern Guilford (80) and Northwood (97) to each qualify for the state championships. Eastern Alamance placed seventh out of eight teams with 188 points.
Rocio Rosa (23:53. 31) of Eastern Alamance placed 42nd. Abigail Lush (25:01.37), Western Alamance's lone runner, finished 45th.
At Greensboro, Kuluel Mading poured in 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots and The Burlington School defeated NCISAA Class 4-A perennial powerhouse Greensboro Day School 67-51.
Shane Peterson provided 14 points, going 4-for-5 from 3-point range for the Class 2-A Spartans (14-2), who lost to Greensboro Day by 18 a season ago. Jamarii Thomas finished with 13 points and eight assists for the visiting Spartans.
Greensboro Day School fell to 13-5, suffering its largest defeat of the season. Three of the Bengals four previous losses each came by a one-point margin.
• EASTERN GUILFORD 77, ASHEBORO 51: At Gibsonville, Kadyn Dawkins scored 16 points and drained three of Eastern Guilford's 10 made 3-pointers in a Mid-Piedmont Conference game.
Khyair Lundy finished with 14 points, Kamell Smith provided 13 points, four rebounds and four assists and Dawkins supplied five assists and three steals for the Wildcats (3-0 overall, 3-0 Mid-Piedmont Conference), improving the team's average margin of victory to 21.7 points on the young season.
Chase Ford, Mykell Lawson and Lundy accounted for two 3-pointers apiece for Eastern Guilford.
