T.J. Lester registered a double-double performance and host Williams High School topped Asheboro 63-43 in Mid-Piedmont Conference boys’ basketball.
Lester provided 11 points and 13 rebounds, Jeremiah King poured in 18 points and Evan Breedlove made four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points for the Bulldogs (4-1 overall, 3-1 Mid-Piedmont Conference).
Xavion Jones put together a strong defensive game, posting nine points and seven steals to help Williams.
"Excellent defensive game," Williams coach Tommy Cole said of Jones.
Asheboro dropped to 2-2, 2-2.
• EASTERN ALAMANCE 70, ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 49: At Mebane, host Eastern Alamance made eight 3-pointers in the second quarter to pull away in a Mid-State 3-A Conference game.
Darius Kane (13 points), Caleb Gerlach (12), Noah Allison (nine) and Evan Mann (nine) led the Eagles (3-2, 3-2) in scoring. Mann and Allison each accounted for three of Eastern Alamance’s nine 3-pointers for the game.
Johnathan Compton registered 18 points to pace the Cougars (0-5, 0-5).
• THE BURLINGTON SCHOOL 83, HENDERSON COLLEGIATE 51: At Rock Hill, S.C, four Spartans players finished with double-digit points as TBS defeated last season’s NCHSAA Class 1-A co-state champions.
Shane Petterson and Jakel Powell poured in 14 points apiece for the Spartans (16-2). Powell drained four 3-pointers while Peterson knocked down three 3-pointers.
The Burlington School’s Zion Walker scored 13 points and Isaiah Escobar finished with 10 points.
Henderson Collegiate dropped to 3-1 on the year, ending a streak of 17 consecutive victories dating back to last season.
Girls’ basketball
Jaclyn Faucette made two late free throws to give Clover Garden a one-point lead and the team’s pressure defense held strong in the closing seconds to give the Grizzlies a 58-57 Central Tar Hill Conference victory against Chatham Charter.
Faucette finished with 33 points to lead the host Grizzlies (5-0, 3-0). Emma Hackney provided 12 points and Lexie Roberts recorded eight rebounds.
Alexis Baldwin scored 18 points to pace the Knights (2-2, 2-1).
•SOUTHERN ALAMANCE 65, EASTERN GUILFORD 38: At Mt. Hermon, MeiLani Patterson notched 18 points and 13 rebounds to help host Southern Alamance collect its first Mid-Piedmont Conference victory of the season.
Lacy Mills and Caitlyn Russell provided the Patriots (2-3, 1-3) with 13 points apiece. Mills recorded 11 rebounds while Russell grabbed eight boards.
Makayla Carney scored eight points to lead the Wildcats (0-4, 0-4).
• ASHEBORO 75, WILLIAMS 59: Diamond McDowell posted a game-high 27 points to help visiting Asheboro win the Mid-Piedmont Conference game.
Bri Scott scored 13 points to pace the Bulldogs (4-1, 3-1). Janasia Bailey and Talaya Scott poured in 10 points apiece.
Sion Murrain provided 14 points for the Blue Comets (3-0, 3-0).
• EASTERN ALAMANCE 63, ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 24: At Mebane, Amiyah Evans poured in 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Eastern Alamance in a Mid-State 3-A Conference game.
Laila Anderson provided 20 points and five steals for the host Eagles (5-0, 5-0), who jumped in front 21-5 at the end of the first quarter.
Eastern Alamance received 14 points and eight rebounds from Hali Watkins and six points and seven rebounds from Kyra Jones.
Skyler Fowler paced the Cougars (1-4, 1-4) with 10 points and seven rebounds.
• GRAHAM 50, CUMMINGS 22: Charisma Heggie scored 13 points as Graham collected its first victory of the season, coming in a Mid-State 2-A Conference game.
Mikaya Baldwin and Alanna Godley pitched in 10 points apiece for the Red Devils (1-4, 1-2).
Dori Paylor and Tatiyana Walls provided 10 points apiece for the host Cavaliers (0-2, 0-2).
