A season-opening football game pitting Graham against host Southern Alamance has been canceled, Red Devils athletics director Kyle Ward confirmed Tuesday morning to the Times-News.
"I can confirm that Alamance-Burlington School System has had one of our high school teams with activities interrupted recently due to COVID-related issues," Ward said in a statement, "and that they are following the protocols I outlined (below).
"We do not identify or confirm individual cases for students or adults. Any individual on campus who may be considered a positive case or a close contact through contact tracing by the Alamance County Health Department is directly notified and provided with information about their health condition and any other important health and safety protocols needed."
There currently are no plans to make up the game.

"High school sports activities that have suspected or positive COVID cases that may be related to teams or coaching staff follow all health and safety protocols as outlined by the NCHSAA and guidance provided by our local health department and our school nurses," the statement continued. "For our athletics program, teams will suspend practices and/or competitions as necessary based on guidance received by the NCHSAA and the local health department related to suspected or positive cases. Teams will resume practice and or competition following the NCHSAA guidelines and guidance from our local health department."
Southern Alamance was unable to schedule a home replacement game for Friday, according to an email from athletics director Stephanie Smith. The Patriots had hoped to schedule a game with Cary Green Level, but the Gators were unable to travel to Mt. Hermon, Smith said.
The Patriots will instead open their season next Friday, playing host to Eastern Alamance in an Aug. 27 non-conference game.
Graham's game against visiting Carrboro, originally scheduled for next Friday night, has been moved to 6 p.m. next Saturday. The Red Devils have added a game at Cameron Union Pines to their schedule for Sept. 24.
