To the editor:
I am writing to bring attention to an important issue that affects many families in our community. In recent years, the summer camp programs at Maplebrook Park and other low-income areas have been discontinued, leaving many children without access to affordable and enriching activities during their summer break.
As a concerned member of the community, I have started a petition to reinstate these summer camps and ensure that all children have the opportunity to participate regardless of their family's financial situation. The benefits of summer camp are undeniable, providing kids with a safe and fun environment to learn new skills, build friendships, and create lasting memories.
It's especially crucial to offer these programs in low-income areas where families may not have the means to pay for expensive camps or take their children on vacations. By reinstating the summer camps at Maplebrook Park and other low-income areas, we can help bridge the opportunity gap and provide equal access to these transformative experiences.
I urge the city's Parks and Recreation Department to consider the importance of these programs and work with the community to find ways to reinstate them. Our children's futures depend on it, and we owe it to them to provide the resources they need to succeed.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I encourage all members of the community to join us in this fight for access to affordable and enriching Summer camps for all children.
