BURLINGTON — The city of Burlington will present the 440th Army Band at the Paramount Theater, 128 E. Front St., on Saturday, June 15, at 7 p.m.
This concert of big band and patriotic music will be free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved, Paramount Director Eric Kerchner said.
“This concert is a thank you to the entire Burlington community for supporting the Paramount over the years,” he said. “This is a great way to introduce yourself or someone else to the Paramount if they have never been before, especially if they are a veteran.”
The North Carolina National Guard’s 440th Army Band’s mission is to perform for troops and their families and for the state’s citizens at ceremonies, public concerts and parades, said Army Staff Sgt. Devin West, who plays a number of different instruments and serves as the band’s supply noncommissioned officer.
“The overall mission is to provide music to instill in our soldiers the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens and promote patriotism in our national interests at home and abroad,” he said.
The 440th traces its roots back to World War II, when it served as the 30th Infantry Division’s band. The band also served with distinction, landing on the beach at Normandy and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, for which the band carries honors awarded by France and Belgium.
