GRAHAM — Graham Recreation and Parks invites children ages 4-15 to participate in a free, non-competitive Youth Fishing Day on Saturday, May 11, from 9-11 a.m. at Graham-Mebane Lake, 3218 Bason Road, Mebane. Check-in will be from 8:30-9 a.m.
In addition to fishing, there will be raffles and SnoBalls as well as yard games at the Park and Play mobile recreation van. Stormwater SMART will also be on-site with fun, educational opportunities while kicking off Alamance Creek Week.
Online registration is required, and the event is limited to the first 100 participants to register. Parents are asked to register their children in advance. To maximize space for youth, only immediate family members are encouraged to attend, and participants are asked to carpool if possible. Bait (redworms) will be provided.
To register, visit www.GrahamRecreationAndParks.com. Registration is open up through noon on Friday, May 10, or until full. To receive an event T-shirt, you must register by Sunday, April 28.
Participants needing a fishing rod should sign up to borrow one during registration; the supply is limited to approximately 40 and provided by the N.C. Wildlife Tackle Loaner Program.
All children must have adult supervision at all times during this program. No smoking, vaping, pets or drones are allowed. The bank fishing area will be closed to all non-event anglers until noon. Event participants will need to clear the bank fishing area at 11 a.m. and check in at the marina office to continue fishing when it re-opens.
If this program is canceled due to inclement weather, etc., there is no rain date and the program will take place next year.
