Eddie and Katharine Osborne of Burlington were honored with a dinner on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Lake Mackintosh Club House in Burlington in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.
About 100 guests consisting of family and friends, including Eddie's mother (Martha Smith Osborne, 95) were in attendance.
Hosts included their daughter, Martha Caulder of Burlington and twin granddaughters Mary Katharine Brown and Madelin Klaire Brown; their son, John Osborne of Burlington and his wife, Alina, and grandson John David; their daughter, Katharine Watts of McLeansville and husband, Eric. Guest registrars were Nancy Sells, sister of the bride and Geri Sharpe, music director for Brookwood Ministries. Several members of the original wedding party were also in attendance: Debbie S. Hayes, Judy S. Sugg, Nancy W. Sells, Sharon O. Denny, Terry W. Sells, D. Keith Osborne and Donnie W. Sells.
Shelia O. Lawson of Catering D'Lites in Kernersville provided the meal. Photography was by Gary and Teresa Hadley of Treasures by Teresa of Graham. Flowers and decorations were by Blake and Wanda Jones of Elon. A bulletin board of pictures with descriptions was on display, along with the bride's wedding gown, majorette boots and baton from the 1960s. Eddie's high school band uniform with hat and trumpet from the 1960s also rounded out the display section.
Eddie graduated from East Forsyth High School and Elon College. Katharine graduated from East Forsyth High School and Catawba College.
Both began their working careers teaching in Virginia Beach, Va. Eddie taught at Bayside Junior High and Katharine taught at Windsor Oaks Elementary. After moving to Burlington, Eddie worked at Elon College, then Central Carolina Warehouses and became a partner at South Atlantic Packaging Company before retiring. Katharine taught at Turrentine Middle School before retiring.
The Osbornes were married on July 28, 1968, at the First United Church of Christ on Waughtown Street in Winston-Salem. Pastors J. Wayne Fouts and Bobby Roberson officiated.
