Alamance-Burlington School System bus crashes, four hurt, one car totaled

The bus driver told Burlington Police he was distracted by a broken-down vehicle with several people standing around it on the shoulder of the road. He did not see the cars ahead of him waiting for a driver to take a left turn in time to stop. The bus hit a 2012 Camry at about 40 miles per hour pushing it into a 2015 Chevrolet truck, according to a police news release.

There were 44 Williams High School students on the bus. Four of them reported injuries. Alamance County EMS treated them for non-critical injuries, according to police. The crash left the bus and truck with minor damage, but the Camry was a total loss.

Police charged the bus driver with failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision. He is a physical education teacher at Smith Elementary School who regularly drives that bus route.
