Mechanical issues were blamed for a vehicle fire on Feb. 12 along Interstate 40 near exit 141.
Once the blaze started, the driver pulled to the side of the road, creating a trail of fiberglass debris that set fire to a patch of grass at the interstate's edge, said authorities.
Burlington firefighters arrived at about noon and extinguished the flames, said Burlington fire Battalion Chief Nim Harris. The driver escaped the burning vehicle without serious injury.
Harris said about six fire trucks were on hand.
“While that may sound like a lot, on the interstate we typically have additional trucks to provide blocking protection from the cars.” Harris said. “What also made this unique is that on the interstate we don’t have hydrants so we have to rely on getting water from the other trucks and that also brought about the need for additional trucks.”
The state Highway Patrol was investigating the incident.
