Burlington house fire kills one, injures another in attempted rescue

Firefighters got to 412 Hood St., Burlington, two minutes after getting the call at 8:50 p.m., Monday, June 6, according to a department news release, to find fire spread throughout the house and learn there was someone inside.

Firefighters soon found that occupant but were too late. While they could not save that person's life, firefighters found a second victim who had gone into the fire to help the first. He had substantial burns, according to the department, but Alamance County EMS took him to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Though it only took twenty minutes to get the fire under control, the house was completely destroyed. Investigators with the Burlington police and fire departments are still looking for the cause with the help of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
