BURLINGTON — Burlington’s economic development department has awarded over $70,000 to three businesses in the second cycle of the city’s new Priority Corridors Grant Program.
Grant award recipients are:
Dynamic Electric Supply Inc., 315 N. Church St.: Dynamic Electric Supply is an industrial electrical supply house providing industrial control solutions to manufacturing plants and electrical contractors in Alamance County and the surrounding area. Dynamic has used its funds to replace and enhance the parking lot to improve the long-term durability and visible of its facility from North Church Street.
Kool Kidz Place — SKN Investment Properties LLC, 1824 E. Webb Ave.: Kool Kidz Place child care will use its grant to help fund the expansion of its East Webb Avenue facility. A derelict building next door will be completely renovated with new interior layout, windows, siding, plumbing, flooring and more.
Future restaurant (name TBD), 2405 N. Church St.: The owner of a local food truck with more than 10 years’ experience serving customers in Burlington is opening a new Mexican restaurant. With the funds awarded to the owner, Maria H. Oropeza Brisen, a new grease trap and kitchen drain system will be installed.
Seeing untapped potential in the Maple Avenue, East Webb Avenue and North Church Street corridors, the Burlington City Council directed staff to develop a targeted grant program focused on unlocking new private investment in those specific geographic areas.
Priority Corridor Grants provide one-to-one matching funding up to $30,000 for eligible project expenses. Two types of grants are available: the Façade Improvement Grant and the Interior Upfit Grant. These grants can be applied for separately or in combination by businesses and property owners. The city council approved $300,000 for the program.
