SUMMERFIELD — Pete Barusic, an avid runner and AuthoraCare Collective community volunteer, is inviting runners and walkers to the 2024 Summer Solstice Ultra Relay on Saturday, June 15, in Summerfield in northwestern Guilford County.
This fundraising event will benefit AuthoraCare Collective, an organization dear to Barusic’s heart.
The event is sponsored by Barusic’s In Between Seasons Coaching LLC. Participants are asked to consider donating a minimum of $10 to AuthoraCare.
The one-mile course will be open from sunrise to sunset (6:02 a.m.-8:39 p.m.) Saturday, June 15, at Doggettville Farm, 7962 Highfill Road, Summerfield. A virtual option is also available.
“You have the ability to come out and run or walk all day or come out whenever fits your schedule,” Barusic said. “You can run by yourself or with a team or family. The event is set up as a laidback way for us to come together in fellowship for all levels of runners and walkers.”
There is no official timing for the event, but all laps completed are tracked.
The Summer Solstice Ultra Relay began in 2019 as a fundraiser for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. Barusic, along with his friends and fellow runners Joe Matthews and Walt Maxwell, organized that event. For the last three years, the event has benefitted AuthoraCare.
Families are encouraged to participate together.
“It really is a family event and through this fundraising, we are supporting patients and families cared for by AuthoraCare,” Barusic added.
