BURLINGTON — A state grant will help support a Burlington manufacturer’s expansion of its plant here.
The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority approved eight grant requests to local governments totaling $1.46 million, Gov. Roy Cooper’s office announced Thursday.
A $100,000 grant was awarded to the city of Burlington on behalf of Matthews International, which plans to invest $4.9 million in a 60,000-square-foot expansion of its plant in Burlington. Matthews makes high-tech custom energy storage, marking, coding and industrial automation technologies. The company expects to create 14 new jobs in its expansion.
Funding for the RIA grants is managed by the N.C. Department of Commerce’s Rural Economic Development Division. Grants support a variety of activities, including infrastructure development, building renovation, expansion and demolition, and site improvements.
