BALTIMORE, MD — Barbara Brooks Horne Durham, 92, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024 in Baltimore, MD. She was born on September 4, 1931 to parents Sidney Allen Horne and Clytie Vivian (nee Cates) in Burlington, NC. Barbara lived a full and vibrant life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Barbara was a loving mother to her three children. She is survived by her daughters, Ashley Corbin and Whitney Korangkool; four grandchildren Jason Hammond, Hannah Korangkool, Evelyn Korangkool, and Elias Corbin and a sister, Pat Barber; and four former sisters-in-law with whom she remained close Jane Durham, Kay Howe, Lisa Durham, and Beverly Wheat, and a host of many friends and relatives. Barbara imagined she’d be a Homemaker but life required a pivot and she found employment at a small family-owned pharmacy, Elkridge Pharmacy, where she was known fondly by all as “Miss Barbara”, dispenstress of wisdom, empathy, and kindness. She was an amazing seamstress, taught by her father, the tailor. She volunteered at Elkridge Grace Episcopal Church, where she found a social & spiritual home.
Barbara never learned to drive, for which the driving world should be eternally grateful, but she always got where she wanted or needed to go.
Barbara will be remembered by close family and friends at a graveside funeral in Burlington, NC later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or Grace Episcopal Church in Barbara’s memory. Barbara will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her spirit and love continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
