GRAHAM — A season-long big bass tournament will take place March 1-Sept. 30 at Graham-Mebane Lake, 3218 Bason Road, Mebane, for ages 16 and older.
The cost is $25 for the entire tournament (normal lake user fees apply).
Those interested may join the tournament any time during the season and fish as often as they like during the lake’s operational hours. The entry fee must be paid before catching and weighing a fish. Each month, the heaviest largemouth bass caught and weighed in by an entrant wins. There will be seven monthly winners, unless there’s a tie.
An option for entrants is the second-chance tournament, which will be running at the same time. This tournament gives entrants who do not win a month an opportunity to win an annual permit and participate in the BBT fish-off. The cost is $10, in addition to the BBT entry fee.
To qualify in the second-chance tournament, these entrants weigh in their largemouth bass caught during the BBT. The goal is to make the tournament-long top eight heaviest largemouth bass that do not win a month. Lake staff will compile and keep this list up to date. There will be a tournament for those top eight on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
The BBT monthly winners and the second-chance tournament winner each receives a user fee permit valued at $50-$70, valid for one year, and qualifies for the fish-off, which will be Saturday, Oct. 12, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
The top three finishers in the fish-off receive monetary prizes. Fish-off payout is based on 75% of entry fees collected, divided as follows: First place, 50%; second place, 30%; and third place, 20%.
