WILSON — Molly Widderich scored four goals, including two in overtime, and the Eastern Alamance girls soccer girls' soccer team upset top-seeded Wilson Hunt 4-3 in an NCHSAA Class 3-A East regional semifinal Thursday night.
The No. 5 seeded Eagles (20-3-1) play host to No. 6 seed Croatan in the East regional final Tuesday with a spot in the state championship on the line.
Widderich supplied both Eastern Alamance goals in overtime, including the game-winner with less than three minutes left.
The junior previously had scored with less than three minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime. She provided her first goal in the 53rd minute after the host Warriors (22-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Mariah Polk paced Hunt with three goals, Susan Guzman tallied two assists and Cappa Bunn finished with one assist.
MacKenzie Webber provided three assists for Eastern Alamance.
At Newport, Gentry Straub provided one goal and one assist and host Croatan held off Williams in the other 3-A East regional semifinal.Â
Straub scored in the eighth minute on a feed from Cora Taylor. Kelsey McAloon scored off a Straub corner kick in the second half to extend the lead to 2-0 in favor of Cougars (14-4-2).
Olivia Vandre scored for the Bulldogs (15-6-2) with about 12 minutes remaining to cut the deficit in half.
