Southern Alamance junior Alexis Cagno is the Times-News Athlete of the Week for May 16-22, as determined by a public vote.
Cagno scored the game-winning goal in double overtime of a 1-0 victory against Fuquay-Varina in the second round of the state playoffs.
Sammy Edwards of The Burlington School baseball team was voted as the runner-up.

Six high school athletes from Alamance County produced impressive individual performances the week of May 16-22, making them candidates for the Times-News Athlete of the Week award.

NCHSAA TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Alamance County athletes earn state titles
Jonathan Horn, Burlington Christian Academy
The senior won state titles in the 110 meter hurdles (15.84) and the pole vault (15-0) at the NCISAA Division III track and field championships.
Emma Hackney, Clover Garden
The senior for the Grizzlies girls' soccer team poured in four goals and three assists in Clover Garden's 9-0 victory against Lejeune in the second round of the state playoffs.
Jonathan Paylor, Cummings
The sophomore won state titles in the 100 (11.19), the 200 (21.6) and the 400 (49.24), and was named MVP of the NCHSAA Class 2-A track and field championships. The Cummings boys won their first team track and field state title since 1998.
Tamesia Pinnix, Cummings
The senior won state titles in the 100 hurdles (14.11) and the long jump (18-6¼) at the NCHSAA Class 2-A track and field championships to help the Cavaliers girls place fourth in the team standings.

The junior for the Patriots girls' soccer team scored the game-winning goal in double overtime of a 1-0 victory against Fuquay-Varina in the second round of the state playoffs.
Sammy Edwards, The Burlington School
The senior for the Spartans baseball team pitched all five innings, striking out five and allowing two hits and one unearned run in a 12-1 victory against Westchester Country Day in Game 1 of the NCISAA Class 2-A state championship series. In an 11-5 Game 2 victory to clinch the state title, Edwards drove in a pair of runs in a seven-run sixth inning for the Spartans.
