Cone Health will be offering a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to those who are immunocompromised beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19.
The Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for those with weakened immune systems.
At this time, booster doses are only available to those who are immunocompromised. Third doses for the general population will begin the week of Sept. 20, per the federal rollout. At this time, booster shots are only available for those who received the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines originally.
All Cone Health vaccine clinics will offer booster shots for those who are immunocompromised. Those eligible can make an appointment at conehealth.com/vaccine or by calling 336-890-1188 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. A list of vaccine clinic locations is available on Cone Health's website.
When coming to the appointment, patients should bring their COVID-19 vaccination card. If someone doesn't have the card, Cone Health can check to confirm vaccination status. Proof of immunocompromised status won't be required.
The vaccine is free, as the first and second doses were.
