BURLINGTON — Residents of two apartments were displaced because of a fire that began at the apartment building’s electrical box, the Burlington Fire Department said.
The fire at 2008 S. Mebane St. was reported about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the rear of the building, where they found an electrical panel box on fire, and the flames had spread to the structure, the fire department said.
Two of the apartments in the four-unit building were vacant, and firefighters evacuated the other two.
The fire was under control within minutes, and firefighters checked to confirm there was no further extension of the fire beyond the area around the electrical panel, the fire department said.
The two occupied apartments had minor damage, but the residents were moved to other apartment units.
The fire caused an estimated $10,000 worth of damage, the fire department said.
