HIGH POINT — With her loving children by her side, Nan Williard Freemon Flynn, 89, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Hospice Home of High Point.
Nan was born in Burlington, NC on September 1, 1934 to the late Joseph Mark Freemon and Zelma Marie Williard Freemon. She was a member of the first graduating class of Walter Williams High School and then attended the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. In addition to raising five wonderful children, Nan was an active member in the High Point community. She was a long-time member in her garden club, the Parson’s table of First United Methodist Church, and the hospital guild of High Point Memorial. She owned and operated two successful clothing stores, Initially Yours and My Friends Place.
In addition to her parents, her husband of 59 years, Keith “Jack” B. Flynn; brother, Joseph Mark Freemon, Jr. and an infant sister, Joanne, also preceded her in death.
She was extremely proud of her five children who will miss her dearly. Her happiest times were when they were all gathered for holidays and special occasions: Sally McKenzie (Bill), Chris Flynn, Jay Flynn (Kim) and Keith Flynn, Jr. (Angie) and Nan Flynn; grandchildren Will McKenzie, Sarah Peterson (Chuck) Taylor Chen (Chris), Caroline Flynn (Jason) Jake Flynn, Macie Rollins (Craig) and Thomas Flynn; ten great-grandchildren and much-loved nieces and nephews.
Nan was also grateful for her life-long friendships with her Hillcrest School first grade classmates who remained the closest of friends throughout their entire lives; Delaina Buehler, Elsie Bolick, Ann Strange, Nancy Lewis, Jacklyn Harrison, Eddie Von Jones, Norma Donkle, Margie Hensley, Emma Jewel and Joanne Newman.
A private graveside service will be held for family.
The family invites friends to celebrate Nan’s life Sunday, March 17th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at High Point Country Club — 800 Country Club Drive, High Point.
All the Flynns wish to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love, fun and friendships shared with many of her endearing friends at Pennybyrn, her wonderful High Point friendships along with the staff and nurses at Hospice of High Point.
