HIGH POINT — William (Bill / Billy) Albert Sykes, Jr., 80, of High Point, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024, at his home.
Born February 20, 1944, in Alamance County, he was a son of the late William Albert Sykes Sr. and the late Doris Howerton Sykes. Bill graduated from Mebane High School in 1963 and served in the US Army from 1966 until 1969 with a tour of duty in South Korea. He enjoyed boating and camping in his early years and collecting classic Pontiac cars. Bill was a founding member of the Piedmont Pontiac Car Club and also a member of POCI for forty-four years. He was an avid Duke basketball fan, enjoyed southern gospel music and was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church.
Bill is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Catherine “Cathy” Daniels Sykes of the home; sisters, Amy Gilkerson of Charlottesville, VA, and Beth Williams, and husband Rob of Nashville, TN; very special and loving cousin, Lucinda Sykes of Mebane; special sister-in-law, Doris Daniels of New London, NC and brother-in-law, Harold Daniels and wife Terry of Conway, SC, and many special friends and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Lebanon United Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph Kim officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point.
