Alamance Regional Medical Center will undergo a $34.2 million expansion over the next two years.
The expansion will add 14,000 square feet and renovate an additional 49,000 square feet at the medical center, moving and expanding the breast care center and bolstering the cardiovascular and interventional radiology departments, officials recently announced.
“This is a major investment in the health of people in Alamance County,” said Alamance Regional Medical Center President Mark Gordon.
According to Cone Health, a new interventional lab will be built alongside two recently modernized labs, allowing for growth for the Cone Health Heart &Vascular and Interventional Radiology Center at ARMC. The new lab will expand the types of care available at the hospital.
A new CT scanner “with specialized cardiac capabilities” will also be installed to expand services, along with a new cardiovascular lab. Existing cardiovascular labs will be expanded and renovated, a news release from the hospital noted.
Other changes include moving the Norville Breast Care Center to the Grandview building across from the hospital, more than double the size of the facility and adding additional mammography and ultrasound rooms.
“We have long strived to bring the highest-quality health care to Burlington. More options and more advanced care mean fewer people will need to leave the area for the care they require,” Gordon said.
Cone Health did not announce an official start date for the construction, but said the project would take about two years to complete.
News of the local $34.2 million expansion project comes on the heels of Tuesday's announcement by Cone that it will build a multimillion-dollar outpatient surgery center at Cone Health MedCenter Kernersville.
