Kristin Leigh Gaddis and Matthew Howard Cates, both of Louisville, Ky., were married at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Duncan Memorial Chapel in Crestwood, Ky.
The theme of the wedding was based on 1 John 4:19 “We love because He first loved us.”
As the bride entered with her father, the groom sang “Love Never Fails” by Brandon Heath. Scripture 1 John 4:4-19 was read by David Cates, father of the groom. Expressions of how God has loved Kristi were shared by Nikki Gilmore, friend of the bride, and Jeffrey Cates, brother of the groom, shared ways God has loved Matthew.
Angela Cates Bortone, sister of the groom, sang “Jesus The Lord My Savior Is” by Sandra McCracken.
During the wedding ceremony, both Matthew and Kristi shared why they love each other.
Parents of the bride, Charles and Sandi Gaddis of Ocala, Fla., and parents of the groom, David and Carol Cates of Burlington, displayed a silk banner with the theme Bible verse, “ We love because He first loved us” from 1 John 4:19 while instrumentalists played “The Marriage Prayer” by John Waller.
Dr. Darren Gaddis, brother of the bride, officiated and explained the meaning of the banner, how their love for each other flows from God’s love for us.
During the procession of the husband and wife, instrumentalists played “May the Peoples Praise You” by Keith and Kristyn Getty.
After the ceremony a reception with square dancing was held at 314 Exchange, Pewee Valley, Ky.
The couple traveled to Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.; and Victoria, Canada.
The bride graduated from Tate High School in Pensacola, Fla.; the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss.; and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. She is a high school language arts teacher with Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville.
The groom graduated from Williams High School in Burlington; the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. He is an Adult Education Instructor with Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville.
The couple resides in Louisville.
