MENTORING
Alamance-Burlington Closing the Achievement GAP Inc. held its annual awards banquet online Wednesday, June 17. Normally the banquet has been held at the Mebane Arts Center, Occasions or the Elon Life Center. The night is dedicated to 12th-grade young minority men who have done well throughout high. N.C. Secretary of Environmental Quality Michael Regan brought greetings and introduced the young men. Actor Tequan Richmond, whose family lived in Alamance County before leaving to Southern California was guest speaker along with his mother, the actress Temple Poteat.
PEOPLE IN BUSINESS
Bill Sargeson has joined Allen Tate/Burlington with his team, Ginny Love, Tim Penley and Stephen Satterfield. Sargeson received numerous awards while working with Coldwell Banker, and also is active with local animal organizations in rescuing German shepherds. Married for 20 years, he has three children. Penley is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and spent 20 years in home improvement. Satterfield, a native of Alamance County, has a finance background, is married and has two children and numerous animals. The team can be reached at 336-227-3666.
Burlington Mayor Ian Baltutis has been sworn in to continued service on the N.C. League of Municipalities, serving at large.
Dr. Brian Caveney, LabCorp’s chief medical officer and president of Labcorp Diagnostics, is among Modern Healthcare’s 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives. The program acknowledges clinicians deemed by their peers and an expert panel to be the most influential in leadership and impact. Caveney joined LabCorp after serving as chief medical officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. He was also chief clinical officer of Mosaic Health Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Blue Cross NC, for strategic investments in diversified health solutions. Prior to Blue Cross NC, Caveney was a practicing physician and assistant professor at Duke University Medical Center.
Elizabeth Gannon, CandaceMcFail, Alisa Scott, Marcel Mitchell Turnerk and Sharon Venable, all registered nurses at Alamance Regional Medical Center, are among recipients of Cone Health’s Nursing Excellence awards. Recipients receive trophies and certificates.
The Rev. Jerome Henry is pastor of St. Luke Christian Church, 1167 W. Center St., Mebane, the church announced this month. Henry, 61, replaced the Rev. Rory Garrison, who served for 26 years at St. Luke before retiring in 2018 because of increasing health issues. Henry was born in New York and graduated from Southern Wayne High School in Dudley, near Goldsboro, in 1976. He ministered in various capacities under Dr. Dannie T. Williams of Melfield United Church of Christ, and pastored Pope’s Chapel United Church of Christ in Franklinton for more than six years. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in biblical studies/theology at Charlotte Christian College.

Cone Health has won two Recognition Professionals International Best Practice Standards awards in recognition of an annual employees event last October that featured stilt walkers, jugglers, acrobats, LED artists and carnival foods. The awards recognize employee engagement and culture through workplace recognition programs. Cone Health was recognized for Standard 6: Recognition Events and Celebrations, and Standard 7: Program Change and Flexibility.
