Week 5 of the high school football season features six games involving eight teams from Alamance County and the surrounding area. Here’s who’s in action tonight:
Eastern Alamance (1-1) at Southern Alamance (3-0), 7 p.m.
This is a non-conference game. … Eastern Alamance enters this game with short time to prepare after defeating Cummings 33-6 on Monday. That was the Eagles’ first game since the season opener Aug. 20 at Eastern Randolph, a 34-6 loss. … This game was originally scheduled for Aug. 27 but postponed with the Eagles in COVID protocols. … As prolific as the Southern Alamance offense has been, averaging 384 rushing yards a game, the Patriots defense has been just as solid, allowing a combined 23 points through three games. … Eagles quarterback Hunter Douglas scored three touchdowns in the victory against Cummings on Monday. … Patriots running back Nevaeh Gattis ran for 214 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-14 victory against Western Alamance last week.
Pittsboro Northwood (1-2) at Williams (1-3), 7 p.m.
This is the Central Carolina 3-A Conference opener for both teams. … Williams comes into this contest after nearly knocking off Eastern Randolph, one of the top teams in Class 1-A, last week. Eastern Randolph held on to win 8-6. … Northwood lost its first game of the season 62-0, before turning around and trouncing Jordan-Matthews 72-0. The Chargers fell to Chapel Hill 36-29 in its last game two weeks ago. … Williams junior defensive end Coleman Mahan recorded 12 tackles, including five for losses, and one sack in last week’s game against Eastern Randolph. … Bulldogs running back Alijah Richmond rushed for 108 yards on 19 carries against the Wildcats, playing in just his second game of the season after missing the first two with an injury.

Orange (1-3) at Western Alamance (0-3), 7 p.m.
This is the Central Carolina 3-A Conference opener for both teams. … Orange picked up its first victory last week with a 47-0 beatdown of Granville Central. The Panthers ran the ball 43 times for 314 yards compared to just four passes in that game. Senior running back Omarion Lewis racked up 178 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. … Western Alamance is an uncharacteristic 0-3 this season, with an average margin of defeat of 32.3 points. … Senior linebacker Ty Belles leads the Warriors defense with 29 tackles. … Western Alamance sophomore linebacker Chazz May recorded four tackles for losses and two sacks in the Warriors’ 40-14 loss to Southern Alamance last week.
Eastern Guilford (1-1) at Northeast Guilford (0-3), 7:30 p.m.
This is the Mid-State 3-A Conference opener for both teams. … Eastern Guilford earned its first victory last week, defeating Jamestown Ragsdale 47-0 in the Wildcats’ first game, due to an extended COVID-related delay, since a season-opening loss to Northern Guilford. Junior linebacker Braxton Veiga finished with 13 tackles, including five for losses, one sack, one interception and one pass breakup. … Northeast Guilford has lost its first three game by an average margin of 19 points. … Eastern Guilford has won eight straight games against Northeast Guilford, including a 35-25 victory in the 2020 season.

Graham (2-1) at Bartlett Yancey (3-0), 7:30 p.m.
This is the Mid-Carolina 1-A / 2-A Conference opener for both teams. … Bartlett Yancey has won its first three games by an average margin of 43.3 points. The Buccaneers blasted East Chapel Hill 70-0 last week. … Graham defeated Wake Christian Academy 33-14 to give the Red Devils their most wins in a season since 2017, when they went 3-9. … Buccaneers quarterback Brendan Nunnally scored five touchdowns (four rushing, one passing) last week against East Chapel Hill. … Bartlett Yancey has won the last three meetings between these two schools, including a 48-6 victory in the spring season.

This is the Mid-Carolina 1-A / 2-A Conference opener for both teams. … Chatham Central has scored a combined 18 points through three games. … After averaging 43 points in its first two games, Cummings scored just six points in a loss to Eastern Alamance on Monday. Freshman Johnniyus Sharpe played quarterback in that game as senior quarterback Tylek Oliver recovers from a bruised spine suffered against Orange two weeks ago.
