One person died after a house fire on Saturday morning in Graham.
Around 6 a.m, a family member who lives next door to a home in the 300 block of W. Market Street called 911 reporting a house fire with a person trapped inside.
The fire department said responders arrived to find heavy fire in the back of the home and heavy smoke in the front. Firefighters removed the person from the home, and Alamance County EMS began medical treatment.
By 7:24 a.m, Fire Chief Tommy Cole learned the occupant, whose name isn't being released ye died from injuries due to the fire. This is the first fire fatality in Graham in more than 10 years.
The fire was under control within two and a half hours of the arrival of firefighters. The home suffered extensive damage and is considered "a total loss," according to the press release.
Authorities believe the fire was started when combustible materials were left close to a heating source. It was ruled an accidental fire.
Responding agencies included the Graham Fire Department, Graham Police Department, Burlington Fire Department, Haw River Fire Department, Swepsonville Fire Department, Alamance County Fire Marshal’s Office, Alamance County EMS the NC Office of State Fire Marshal.
