Hi readers! It’s been two months since I started working for the area as your new Social Justice Watchdog Reporter. I’ve gotten to know some of you and the issues you care most about, but there is much more to learn and many more people to meet.
My role is to report on social justice issues in Alamance, Davidson and Randolph counties. As a social justice reporter, I’ll take a deep look into racial and socioeconomic disparities in the system – voter suppression, criminal justice, poverty, and mental health issues.
But the issues do not have to be systematic or even problematic. I’ll write about individual success stories and my reporting will also focus on solutions and things the system gets right.
I am new to the Triad region but I am not new to North Carolina. Previously, I was a freelance reporter in New York City where I covered housing and homelessness. Mainly, though, I am here to cover the issues that concern you. As a reporter, I want to accomplish as many things as I can, but most importantly I want you to feel like you’re paying for something worthy when you read my work.
Let’s meet up for coffee and discuss some of these issues when things open up again and Covid-19 is behind us. But for now, do not hesitate to reach me via email if you have anything related to social justice issues. You can always reach me at ajallow@gannett.com or @AhmedJallow on Twitter.
