United Way food drive

BURLINGTON — On Thursday, Aug. 6, United Way of Alamance County hosted its second drive-thru food collection of the summer. Community volunteers and United Way staff loaded over 2,200 pounds of food for local pantries. Rapid Transit provided them with a trailer to house all the food in their back parking lot. The day was a huge success and it was incredibly rewarding to be able to assist their local pantries in feeding the community. The three pantries they donated to were SAFE (Southern Alamance Family Empowerment in Saxapahaw), Healing Station Celebrate Church in Burlington and Manna Market First Baptist Church of Mebane.

As the county’s designated feeding coordinator during the COVID-19 pandemic, United Way of Alamance County is working creatively to ensure a strong food system. They are also aiding the Emergency Operations Center in feeding those in quarantine that don’t have access to meals. To date, they have provided 143 bags of groceries to people in quarantine who otherwise may not have consistent meals.
